IV/ORAL SEDATION

Conscious sedation or “twilight sleep” can provide a more relaxing and comfortable surgical experience. Sedative and pain relief medications are either administered orally and/or intravenously. Together, they help reduce anxiety and discomfort during, and even after, a procedure without the more serious side effects and risks of general anesthesia.

Benefits

In addition to minimizing pain and anxiety, the medications used in conscious sedation provide an amnestic effect. Patients often remember very little of their procedure and wake up feeling less drowsy and nauseous than deeper levels of sedation.
